I recently jumped into recording a new original song based on a few killer ideas that I had sketched out over the past few weeks.  I had recorded some rough video of the riffs and changes on my iphone and was really looking forward to recording in Apple Garageband…

I slaved over half the song structure last night but, much to my dismay, the song sucked – really bad.  It isn’t very often that I record, listen and then essentially put the song in the truck of a car and hypothetically dump it in the river.  This song was going nowhere and the more I tried to salvage it the more it sank further into a death spiral(!)

I slept on it just to make sure and yup: it was worse than I remembered the night before!  I was so incensed that I wrote something so poor that it has motivated me to try that much harder on a new song…I’ve even started to design the artwork for it, as if this were some long awaiting single in between albums.

Long story short – I failed pretty massively but rather than being disappointed I felt even more determined to succeed.  Failure IS an option – I guess it’s what you do with that feeling when you know you did fail.  Here’s to dusting yourself off and starting over…
